MONOCHROME the new trend??

Please note this blogpost is not about politics, but about colors and fashion.

When I sat down to watch the inauguration day yesterday I was certainly not prepared for the biggest fashion moment for quite a while. When I first saw Jill I gasped, the turquise ensemble was just perfection. Then it went on, and on, and on. Kamala Harris in her Purple, Michelle Obama in her more burgundy purple, the Biden grandaughters in pink, apricot and white, J Lo in her stunning white outfit. I was blown away. The monochrome outfits in bold and bright colors was for me a sight for sore eyes. As a color consultant, how could I not love this??? I feared riots, instead I got a fashion moment I will remember for a long time.

The girls in my group (2) Colors In Style By Kari Community | Facebook just loved it and soon the posts about the outfits came. I know many of them started a hunt for a statement coat in one of their best colors.

I already have a couple of coats in my best colors, so I was inspired today to make a moncohrome outfit with 2 of my coats. Monochrome does not mean that it has to be the exact same color in the whole outfit, but the colors need to be in the same color family. I have used various shades od rust in this outfit. The scarf is a bit of a stretch, but I still think the outfit has a monochrome vibe to it. The coat was my first rust item ever, I bought it at Zara in London autumn 2017, and I have loved it ever since.

The other statement coat I have is this fluffy one in a burnt orange. It is from the Norwegian brand Iben and it is the most expensive coat Ive ever had even if I got it on sale 2 years ago. When I first saw this coat I was sold and I ordered it when it was 25% off, but it was too big, they didnt have one size down so Ì ordered 2 sizes down, but it was a lttle big snug over the shoulders so I sent it back. I was still dreaming of this coat when I visited a posh mall on Karl Johan in Oslo, and there it was my size and 70% off. I think it was meant to be really.

I have been quite fed up with all the black, navy and grey we tend to wear in the winter. Here in Norway we see these dark, neutral colors everywhere. In the dark season it would be so much more cheerful to actually see some colors as the weather is often depressing enough by itself if we shouldnt make it even more depressing by wearing dark colors only. Nothing wrong with a neutral coat, but it will be really nice to see a change now. If you get a coat in one of your best colors you will have a coat you will wear and love for years.
