One dress – Four seasons- Winter 2

Link ups:Classy yet trend

Again a post about the most versatile dress I’ve ever had. It’s actually on the list of my 25 most used items in the Stylebook app. That’s really not bad for a dress.

This time I’ve paired it with an oversized, cream cardigan from the Norwegian brand Holzweiler, the scarf is also from Holzweiler. I also wear the leather coated jeans from Fiveunits, Timberland boots and bag is from Mulberry. Everything a few years old.

DSC_0277The watch is from  Mockberg. Klokke fra Mockberg.

Bildene ble tatt i juli, det var da vi fotograferte denne kjolen for alle årstider.DSC_0283Photos from July, when we photographed this dress for all seasons.

We’re still waiting for an opportunity to do another photoshoot, it’s not exactly easy this time of year. I dream of a photoshoot in the snow, that would be amazing, not that we normally have much snow…

Dressing the truth

I have to admit I’m a sucker for blazers and dresses and when I worked in an office I wore this a lot. I have a couple of good blazers from back then and also managed to buy two more this year. Ok one of them was a real bargain as it was from the test collection and sold for only a fraction of the price. (NOK 300 normal price about NOK 2000)

But it’s time to be realistic, I don’t work at the office no more, my health issues put a stop to that a couple of years ago. (I still hope and believe I can work again if only my head stops spinning for every little thing I do.  There’s always hope.) What I need now is practical, comfy clothes to wear around the house, clothes I can relax in, take a walk in and run some errands in without looking like I dressed in the dark. I really don’t wear blazers at home and I have to face it, I’m at home 90% of the time and this is how I really dress.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

So it was time to face the truth, I started by dividing my clothes into 2 categories my Cozy homey clothes and the clothes I wear when I’m going somewhere. Some are for both categories. Leanne from Classy yet trendy for sure was no fool when she started to sell e-books in several categories. I’ve learned so much from her, but since I live in a much colder climate and also in Scandinavia where we have different fashion I have to be creative with what we’ve got here.

So far I’ve only categorized them in my Stylebook app, this is an app for IOS, there are also other closet apps Smart closet is one and GlamOutfit one. So here’s my Cosy homy capsule for this winter.

And here’s some outfits from my cosy home capsule.

And here’s the rest of  my winter capsule, I could probably do with half of this, but this is clothes I like and use when going somewhere.

The last thing i bought before I started my shopping fast was a orange skirt, I’m still waiting for it so don’t know if it will stay, I’ve become an expert in sending things back. Anyway I played around with it and made some outfits.

I think that separating like this will make it even easier to get more wear of my clothes. It has also proved that I do have enough of clothes in both categories so no need to panic even if I’m having a fast. The options are many, I don’t need to put on the same everyday or feel I’m badly dressed when at home.

Until next time

One dress- Four seasons – Preparing for winter

Winter is maybe right around the corner, even if we normally don’t have that cold winters here it’s still good to be prepared. So what I’ve done, I’ve been going through my closet and found that I really don’t need much. I have warm sweaters and cardigans which fits and I actually like, I have merino wool longs and long sleeved undershirt if I should need it. Most of my autumn clothes is also suitable for winter. It’s really a good idea to take a look at what you have before going shopping, I don’t know about you, but I have more than one time bought an almost exact copy of something I already had in my closet and forgot about.

I have a little discussion with myself if I should pack away my mustard items or not. On one side I don’t want to, on the other side, I’m afraid I will be fed up with them and if I pack them away now I will love them next autumn. I have also found how to wear my favourite dress in winter. Actually this was done long time ago, back when I still had hair.

Of course if it’s real cold I would have to add a coat, and if it’s cold and rain my new raincoat would be the option.

We don’t have to pull out the sunglasses very often in the winter, but it happens.

When going through my stuff I found what I really needed was a pair of warm and waterproof boots. I bought a pair of Timberland Premium Shearling. They will keep me both warm and dry. I have another pair of Timbelands, and I love them so I hope I will love these as much.

My outfit: The more than versatile dress from Minimum, leather coated jeans from Fiveunits, turtle neck sweater from Principles (bought in London last year), bag from Michael Kors, shoes from Nude of Scandinavia, hat from Accessorize.

Have you started preparing for winter??

30 x 30 Challenge – Day 11-20

Day 20 already, and still no problem using the 30 items only. I have now removed a pair of shoes from the list, it’s a pair of cognac Ecco flats, which I haven’t used so far in October and probably won’t use either. It has been boot weather most of the time. I haven’t put in anything to replace the shoes, so now I’m one item short. Here’s all my outfits so far in this challenge.

I’m not going to bore you with all my outfits, in this period I’ve spent a couple of days indoors with no outfits to talk about, comfy pants and a sweater has been the uniform.

Days 11 and 12

I was still in Oslo cuddeling my little sweetie.  Went to the mall and found a rust cardigan and a scarf. 2 outfits on day 12, first shoes and quilted jacket when I was at the mall.  I went home again to Bergen in the evening and travelled with my boots and raincoat.

Day 13

Home again. Had to try my new cardigan with my signature dress. Everything goes with this dress, not kidding. Haven’t been able to find a photo of my cardigan online, so this is just an illustration, mine is more rust than the illustration. The one I’ve got is from Zavanna and was NOK 399,-

Day 14

I wore the new scarf for the first time and also the mustard cardigan from Floyd which I bought last year.

Day 15

Not worth mentioning, just staying home, happy not to have any other plans other than knitting.

Day 16

Was the day I used a lot of time to find out how to take a full figure photo using the timer on my phone. You can read about it here. This blogpost turned out to be very popular, so fun that so many liked  it.

Day 17

Another rainy day, cuddling up in the sofa in my homemade sweater and writing a blogpost about how to make it cozy the Scandinavian way.  So many have been asking if I could show more of our interior and now I finally got round to do it. You can find the post here.

Day 18

I dressed up and went to town, had to buy yarn and met a friend for dinner. It was sunshine, which was quite a shock after all that rain. Even pulled out my sunglasses, imagine that!! I used the opportunity to wear my London coat, bought at Zara in September. I also wore the rust cardigan and the new scarf. I think this is one of my favorite outfits ever. This cardigan and the scarf will be used a lot and is a good addition to my wardrobe, Both bought at Bogerud at Stovner senter, they also have this in the Zavanna shops.

Day 19

Really not worth mentioning, sweater and comfy pants and a quick walk to buy some food.

Day 20

Now it’s raining a lot, I’m cuddling up in my mustard sweater from Masai again at the moment, but earlier I had a few errands and wore this.  I also brought my umbrella, can’t leave home without it.

10 days to go on the 30×30 challenge, I believe it will be no problem to make it. It’s really a good exercise to do. I have found my true favourites and also a couple of items I’m not that happy with.

Starting to get used to my new look. At first I was like omg what have I done?? Now I think it’s OK. And it’s so easy, just wash and go. No hairdryer, just one styling product, no curling iron, no rollers, not any fuzz with my hair turning flat after 20 minutes despite all the hard work.

If you want to see more details about my clothes, which brands etc you can find a list here.

Until next time

Dressing up a sweat pant

One of my favourites this autumn and also last autumn and winter are these sweat pants from Global Funk. They are made of a suede like material and are very comfortable. I wear them a lot, and I love that I can dress them up a bit. Comfort and style, what’s not to love.

When pics where taken I was in desperate need for a haircut, and some color. Now that is sorted out, I have now hardly any hair left haha.

Sweater- Masai, pants – Global funk, shoes – Nude of Scandinavia

This is one of my absolute favourite outfits this autumn, I could live in this. When I wear this I’m really in my comfort zone.

Blazer – Penn&ink, shirt – Dranella, pants – Global Funk,scarf – Covent garden market

Stepping up a notch, but still a relaxed outfit. Note to self, keep an eye out for a better fitting shirt in a cream color.

Blazer – Claire, boots – Russell& Bromley

Still the same pants and shirt, but with another blazer and a scarf. Don’t know the brand of the scarf, but I recently bought it. I’ve seen it in several colors in different shops.

Same outfit, different scarf. Also this from the Covent garden market.

All items here are also in my 30×30 challenge, I can mix and match and create endless outfits. I haven’t limited my scarves and accsessories in the 30×30 challenge, a scarf can make a really big difference in many outfits.

Another rainy day here in Bergen, I think Netflix and knitting is on the agenda today. I’m trying to design a teddybear, in between the bunny knitting.

Until next time

30 x 30 challenge – Day 1-5

Day 5 already, how time flies. Here’s the first 5 outfits in the challenge. Have to say weather has been challenging, it’s been raining almost non stop all week, and yesterday it even hailed a little. My new raincoat has proven to be waterproof that’s for sure.

Day 1 Sunday

Actually it was a little sunshine and we used the opportunity to do a photo shoot. At the end of our shoot the rain came. It was nice to get home, put on my Fanakofte  (home knitted sweater) and drink a nice cup of tea after a couple of hours outside in the cold weather.

Long sleeved tee -Minimum, jeans – Fiveunits, homeknitted sweater, raincoat -BRGN, necklace – Syster P

Day 2

I did what I preach and wore a dress in the pouring rain. It sure works, the tights dries up very fast once you get in, no need to change.

Dress – Minimum,cardigan – H&M, coat -BRGN, boots- Timberland, bag – Fjallreven

Day 3

Exiting day as I chopped off most of my hair. I don’t have a car so I walk a lot, I have about a mile to get to the bus when I’m going somewhere. Probably why I’m so concerned about what to wear when it’s raining. It rained a lot, but I was lucky, it didn’t rain at all when I was out walking, but as soon as I got in, oh my ☔️ I cheated a little though, the Ilse Jacobsen boots are not on the list, but boots like this is more a necessity and even if my Timberlands are waterproof I don’t always trust them when it’s a lot of water on the ground.

Long sleeved tee- Minimum, jeans – Fiveunits, blazer – Penn&ink, coat -BRGN, boots – Ilse Jacobsen, bag – Fjallreven also wore the £2,50 from Covent garden market

Day 4

I had a dentist appointment, but I managed to miss, I was sure I was going to be there at 2 o’clock, but it was a 12 o’clock appointment. It’s not the first time, it never happened before, but after I got ill I mix up times and appointments all the time. It’s so embarrassing. Anyway when the dentist called I was on my way out to take back some skirts I tried out. I was going to do that before my dentist appointment. This day I was not so lucky, when I walked to the bus it was pouring down with rain and hail. The raincoat sure showed what it was made of and I arrived safe and dry to the mall.

Dress -Jean Paul, cardigan -H&M, coat – BRGN, boots – Timberland, bag – Fjallreven

Hang on a minute, this dress was not on the list over the 30 items  am I cheating already?? No, I had to replace the Kari dress I’d been waiting for a whole month. When it finally arrived it was such a disappointment. First of all, I thought I ordered a loose relaxed dress. Well it was nothing loose and relaxing about it, it was like a body con. And the color, well what can I say, it wasn’t exactly my kind of color. The whole thing looked more like a Star Trek costume, it’s going straight back where it came from. Ah well, you win some and loose some, on the bright side I saved some money.  My substitute is this striped dress from Jean Paul.

Day 5

Such a dark and rainy day, again. I’m going nowhere and feel the urge for something comfy and cozy. The choice is easy, my soft and comfy sweatpants from Global funk and my favorite sweater from Masai are clear winners. Adds a little color too on this very dark day.

Sweater – Masai, sweatpants- Global funk, sandals – Futti  bought in Croatia ( I wear these in the house almost every day)

This was my five first days, so far so good. I have a couple of brave ladies who’s joined me in this challenge, actually you really don’t need to be that brave, 30 items is a lot to work with.

Sånn går nu dagan.

30 x 30 challenge

I’ve decided to do a 30×30 challenge in October. That means for 30 days I’ll wear 30 pieces of clothing including shoes. Bags, scarves and other accessories not included. Here’s what I’ve chosen, I hope me and photographer Kari can have a photo shoot soon where I will show some of the outfits. We have a plan for tomorrow if weather allouds. We’re back to normal now after a lovely September with very little rain.

Blaser – Penn&Ink, scarf – Becksondergaard, tee- Minimum, jeans – Fiveunits

  1. Terra-cotta long sleeved tee – Part two – New
  2. Charcoal long sleeved tee – Minimum- new
  3. Navy tee – I’ll use one with a v-neck
  4. Olive green tee – Life time (Sparkjøp) – new
  5. Mustard sweater – Masai- new
  6. Navy blue light sweater – Oxmo (Sparkjøp) – new
  7. Cream sweater – Second Female
  8. Camel sweater – Holly & White, Lindex – new
  9. Cream button down – Dranella
  10. Patterned blouse – In Wear -new
  11. Tan waterfall cardigan – Floyd
  12. Olive soft blazer -Penn&ink – new
  13. Tweed blazer – Claire – new
  14. Charcoal cardigan – H&M
  15. Mustard cardigan – Freequent
  16. Navy cardigan – Holly&Whyte, Lindex – new
  17. Fanakofte (traditional sweater) – home knittted
  18. Dark blue jeans – Fiveunits
  19. Mustard jeans – Floyd
  20. Black leather coated jeans – Fiveunits
  21. Navy dressy sweat pants – 2nd one
  22. Olive dressy sweat pants – Global funk (the ones on the pic are only an illustration)
  23. Tan high boots – Timberland
  24. Brown short boots – Russel&Bromley
  25. Olive green sneakers – Nude of Scandinavia

  27. Patterned dress – Minimum
  28. Golden dress – Secrets by B – new, haven’t got this yet and don’t know if it fits.
  29. Brown checked raincoat – BRGN – new ( this is a coat which can be used rain or shine. It breathes and does not look like a raincoat even if it’s 100% waterproof)
  30. Rust coat – Zara – new

Some outfits.

You might think it’s a lot of jackets and cardis, yes it is, but in October I need to wear a layer also indoors. And I’m going to try live without my navy blazer this month, I think it needs a rest. Wish me luck.

Blazer – Claire, scarf – bought at Fellini, tee- Minimum

I see I have quite a few new clothes this autumn, this is due to both that I’ve lost weight since last year and also that I’m phasing out black from my wardrobe. No new pants, but that’s because I “inherited” both the Fiveunits jeans from one of my very best friends.

Any one want to join this challenge??

Until next time

I love mustard

This might not come as a surprise to you if you’ve read any of my blogposts this autumn, but I love mustard. Mustard and ochre is well presented in my wardrobe this autumn. It started last autumn really when I bought a pair of mustard jeans and a long mustard cardigan. In February I bought a home knitted traditional sweater in cream and ochre. I had tons of compliments when wearing this for the first time, so I thought that maybe I was into something color wise. Here’s my mustard/ochre items all in one post.

Jeans- Floyd from last year, Scarf and Blazer – Massimo Dutti  a few years old, boots – Russell & Bromley also a few years old

My first mustard piece of clothing, I really don’t think I had anything in mustard ever before this pair of jeans from Floyd.

Cardigan – Floyd, last year, Scarf – Becksondergaard, a few years old, Dress – Designers Remix, this year Bag – Campomaggi, few years old

My second mustard yellow item also from last fall and from Floyd. I mostly buy Floyd at the Freequent shop in Galleriet. I really like the service there.

Sweater – Home knitted Fanakofte, Dress – Moves Minimum, from last year, Scarf – Rosenvinge, last year

In February I bought this Fanakofte as this traditional sweater is called. It was such luck I found it in a buy and sell group in Facebook. It took me half a second from i saw until I contacted the woman who knitted it. Sometimes you just fall in love. She knitted it for her daughter, but it was to small for her, lucky for me. I absolutely love this sweater and it will probably be in my wardrobe for decades.

I packed the jeans and cardigan away for the spring/summer, but my Fanakofte was often in use all spring and summer. It’s the kind of garment you can just throw over just about anything if it’s a bit chilly.

This fall I fell in love again first time I saw a picture of this sweater from the Danish brand Masai. It’s cotton with a small percentage of wool and polyester. Very comfortable. It will keep well,  I have had many clothes from this brand before and have always been very satisfied with the quality and the fit. Especially if you are Plus size this is a really good brand, they really know how to make clothes that looks good even if you are overweight. I always felt very comfortable in my Masai clothes when I had 30 ponds more on my body.

These are my mustard/ochre items, I’m knitting a scarf and a hat for the winter season and I have a lighter scarf in the color too.

I’ve also ordered a dress from the Norwegian brand Secrets by B, I will receive it next week. I’m really exited about the dress and do hope it fits me. It has my name all over it, literally,  as it’s called Kari. 8C0A6190lite-650x650

This dress can go either way, it can be absolutely a disaster on me, or it can be fabolous, I’m of course hoping for the last.

So this is the mustard/ochre items in my wardrobe. I only wear them one at the time, they are the spice in my wardrobe this fall. The color is so versatile, it goes with black, brown, navy, olive and most neutral colors.

I’ve chosen to write only in English today. Writing a blog is very time consuming and writing in two languages even more time consuming. If you’re a Norwegian reading my blogg and don’t understand much English please let me know and I’ll take the time to write in Norwegian too.

Until next time

One dress, 4 seasons, more autumn outfits

Once again has my signature dress proven to be more versatile than I ever imagined. It seems like almost everything I buy goes with it, even if black now is more or less out of my wardrobe. I bought this yellow sweater a few weeks ago, it’s from the brand Masai and guess what? I can wear it with the dress.

Dress – Moves Minimum, sweater – Masai, bag – Zara, boots – Russell & Bromley

Another new item in wardrobe this autumn is the olive green blazer from Pen & Ink NY, actually a US brand for once. This is also a very versatile piece of clothing. I really did’nt need another blazer, but I couldn’t resist this when I saw it in my favorite Norwegian webshop. It’s different from my other blazers as it very light weighted and thin fabric, which makes a great 2nd layer now in autumn winter. I need a perfect scarf for it though and hope to find it soon.

Blazer – Penn & Ink NY, scarf – Barfota

This scarf was not a big success it’s to big and chunky for the fabric in the blazer.

I do love it when the things I have mix and match so well, that’s the beauty of a capsule wardrobe.

You can find this dress in so many posts now, not bad for a dress that was about $25 and I have still a couple of more outfits to show you, when winter is here. Still I think the autumn outfit no 1 is my favorite.

So what’s a capsule wardrobe???

According to Wikipedia Capsule wardrobe is a term made by Susie Faux in the 70’s. She owned a London boutique called Wardrobe. A capsule wardrobe is a collection of essential items of clothing which always will stay in fashion. The trenchcoat for instance, a white/cream shirt, a cashmere sweater, a pair of nice jeans, a pair of trousers, the little “black” dress, a blazer etc. Here’s the link to the source on Wikipedia  where you can find the list. The general idea is that you have a base and then you add seasonal pieces, which goes with the rest of your clothes. Like in autumn for instance you add 3-4 pieces in one or two of the autumn colors like burgundy, mustard, olive…  My accent color this autumn is mustard, what a big surprise.

So far all is well, most of us has these items in our wardrobe already, but here comes the tricky part, choose a color scheme. Black is probably the most used base color, but honestly also a color very few of us can wear. Charcoal or navy might be a better option for many of us. I’m one of them, black is not my friend, so I had to change my plans for this autumns base color and go back to navy which was my base color spring and summer. I’ve kept a few black items though as a leather coated pair of jeans, a black cardigan, and my black patterned dress which is so versatile. The trick is when I use the black dress or cardigan I’m wearing a scarf in one of my colors. I need a light silk scarf which I can use indoors, this is on my shopping list when I go to London soon.

You also pick a couple of neutral colors, which obviously should go with your base color. White/cream whichever suits you best, brown, olive, grey are all good neutrals. Denim is also a good neutral. Some people can do with the base and neutrals and feel perfectly happy with them. Others like me like a more colors, and that’s where the accent colors come in. Choose one or two carefully for each season. They are the spice in your wardrobe. Scarves and tops are typically items you can buy in accent colors. Spring ad summer I used a warm blush and coral as my accent colors.

This is my capsule this autumn, is it a capsule wardrobe??? Yes and no, I still have to many items for a true capsule,  I have for instance 3 blazers I could probably have done with one, but all of them are different and I love them all. For me the most important is that everything here can be used with so many of the other items, and that my friends is the true beauty of a capsule wardrobe. There is room for personality also and free interpretation also when you have a capsule wardrobe. I have here 30 pieces of clothing, with shoes, scarves and bags I’m probably up in about 50 all together. Some has 37 as a number all togeheter, but as I said, it’s up to you and as time goes by you find that maybe you can live with less clothes and still have more to wear.

So how to do it?? Dive into your wardrobe and find the items on the list. I say dive because that’s actually what most of us have to do, we have far to many clothes. Have you ever counted how many pairs of blue jeans you own??? Honestly, do you need them all? Wouldn’t it be much easier to own only two pairs of jeans, one pair of dark and one pair of light washed? Two pairs of quality jeans that looks real good on you? Pick out the best pairs, if you have several which is amazing on you keep 2-3 for this season and pack the others away for another season. The rest you sell, donate, make a rug of or whatever you choose to do. I bet you don’t have like 20 pairs of blue denims which looks real good on you. Be choosy.  I will also recommend this blogpost by Leanne White Blackmon to get you started on your capsule journey. This is the post that inspired me to start a capsule which also later led on to starting this blog. How to start a capsule wardrobe

This was a long blogpost so if you still are with me you deserve a price,
